Playground

Being in Florida and having the kind of weather we do, you know the children can spend almost each day outdoors for a period of their play time. Burning energy is one of their favorite past times. We maintain and update the playground for the safety of our children. Using materials and structures that are built to last through years of active preschool play. Our large shady outside play area is a continuous learning environment designed to meet the developmental needs of each child. Our teachers include in their daily curriculum, activities that bring the indoor classroom outdoors allowing each child to interact and calculate skills while they play.
In our toddler playground we have activities for them that are closer to ground level, which enables them to experience fun at their age level, and the visibility and accessibility for the teachers is peace of mind. The older preschoolers like physical play, which promotes body awareness, coordination, sense of balance, team work and competition all while stretching their abilities to have fun. Watching the kids on the playground, laugh, giggle, shout, run, hop, skip, imagine and create, makes all our hard work worthwhile.

Palmetto Bay Preschool has a Summer Program.

Each year we offer a variety of fun summer-theme activities, field trips, guest speakers and exciting projects. All intermingled to reinforce the learning objectives the children have accomplished throughout the school year.

Palmetto Bay Preschool is an A.P.P.L.E. accredited learning environment.

Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment (A.P.P.L.E.) is a voluntary accreditation program available to members of F.A.C.C.M. (Florida Association of Child Care Management) The accreditation process is an evaluation of the indicators of quality as reflected in each individual program.

All components of a program are examined including: Administration, classroom environment, parent and community involvement, advocacy on behalf of children and child care, staffing credentials, staff to child ratios, teacher/child interaction, literacy and curriculum.

Palmetto Bay Preschool is a provider for the
Universal Pre-K program.

In December 2004, Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) legislation was passed and signed into law. This bill requires participating child care facilities and homes to maintain quality care accreditation and higher education standards for staff. Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK gives children a jump start by preparing them for school and enhancing their pre-reading, pre-math, language and social skills. By developing the skills children need to become strong readers and students at an early age, children are more likely to be successful in school.
VPK classrooms offer high-quality programs that include high literacy standards, developmentally appropriate curricula, manageable class sizes, and qualified teachers. If you live in Florida and have a child who turns 4 years of age by September 1, your child is eligible for Florida's FREE VPK program. We offer the school-year program which includes 540 hours of instructional time and begins in August.

Enroll your 4-year-old in PBP's VPK program today!

The benefits of VPK are vast and wonderful. Don't miss out on the opportunity to give your child an early start to learning.

Palmetto Bay Preschool has received the
Gold Seal Award.

A "Gold Seal Award" is the seal of approval we received from the state of Florida for insuring that our school and staff holds itself to an extremely high standard. APPLE is the organization we use to help us "verify" these standards. The Gold Seal Quality Care Program is an approved accreditation for child care providers to be eligible to participate in VPK.

Palmetto Bay Preschool participates in the
USDA child nutrition program.

For Our Kids Health and Well Being

chef

Research shows that taking the time to teach and help establish healthy eating habits early in life has positive effects on a child's health and well being. The Child and Adult Care food program (CACFP), a nutrition education and reimbursement program for licensed family child care homes and centers, knows this well. Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the CACFP helps to assure parents that their children are receiving nutritious meals that contribute to a reduction in spending on health care and remedial education. Palmetto Bay Preschool does serve a Whole Grain food component daily to encourage healthy eating habits. To participate in the CACFP, child care providers must serve meals meeting CACFP meal pattern requirements and allow their center to be monitored. In addition, participants must maintain menus, meal counts, attendance records and attend training. All enrolled children are served without regard to race, color national origin, gender, age, or disability.

Our kitchen is highly sanitary and exceeds USDA approved nutritional guidelines. Our in-school chef, Ms. Annette, prepares and serves kid-friendly nutritious meals, offering a variety of different types of foods. Her goal is to familiarize the children with foods that are good for them, introduce them to the wonderful foods that can help them grow up healthy and strong, especially those fruits and vegetables. If children have repeated opportunities to sample new foods, then at least some of them will be accepted in time. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks are included in our tuition price.

The Benefits of Music and Movement.

To enjoy the Love of Music.

music_teacher

Our music teacher, Mrs. Kim, always happy and very energetic combines music and movement which helps our preschoolers learn to control their bodies. They learn to move fast to fast music, and more slowly to slow tunes. She teaches them the hand movements and simple dance moves that go along with rhymes and songs. Learning physical control is an important developmental step and can help build concentration skills and self-control later on. Research has shown that children who are actively involved in music;

star   do better in reading and math when they start school
star   are better able to focus and control their bodies
star   play better with others and have higher self-esteem

Children who grow up hearing music, singing songs, and moving to the beat are enjoying what experts call "a rich sensory environment." This is when the child is exposed to a wide variety of tastes, smells, textures, colors, and sounds, and kids who enjoy such a rich environment do more than have fun.

Each year our children are proud to have a holiday show, when they perform all of their favorite multi cultural songs that they have learned from their music class.
